After the narrow but crucial triumph of England against Spain and their 1-1 draw against Portugal, the first international break of 2025 ended.
The Nations League campaign is on the right track and the European championship in Switzerland is also on the horizon of the lionesses. In July, the Sarina Wiegman team hopes to defend the title they won on the ground at home in 2022, while seeking to repair their final defeat of the World Cup against Spain in 2023.
This month, England was held at a frustrating draw by Portugal in Portimao. The opening goal of Alessia Russo in this match was canceled by a superb second half equalizer from Portugal Starlette and the Attacker Barcelona Kika Nazareth midfielder.
Against Spain in Wembley, however, there was a lot of encouragement when England scored the opening goal in the first half thanks to Jess Park. Unlike Portugal’s game, hosts were defensively resilient, despite the assault on Spain, and performance was probably the best for 12 months.
England players will now return to their respective clubs for a crucial month. There is a final of the League Cup to come, WSL crucial matches and the direct elimination tours of the Champions League.
The next Wiegman team meets in early April for a double head of the League of Nations against Belgium. The first match will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium on April 4, followed by the return match in Leuven four days later.
England faced Belgium for the last time in the group phase of this competition in October 2023. On this occasion, it was also a double head, at home and outside after the other, starting with a narrow 1-0 victory at the King Power Stadium, followed by a spectacular defeat of 3-2 in Leuven.
After the international break in April, England will conclude its group phase campaign of the Nations League at the end of the national season in May. They will face Portugal at the Wembley stadium on May 30, which will be followed by a trip to Spain on June 3.
Since there will then be a one -month break before kick -off of euros in July, it is not yet known if friendly matches will be scheduled for late June. Before euros in 2022, England played warm-up matches against Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
However, due to the proximity of the League of Nations to the Tournament itself, the number of friendly games in England can play, if necessary, to see.
England will then start defense of the Euro title with a group D against France at the Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich on Saturday July 5. The Netherlands and Wales are the rest of what is a very difficult group for current holders.
