n
2024 fired at its end, so I wanted to hit you with a last newsletter before the 2025 chaos kickoff.
n
This is this time of year when our brain will almost automatically go back over the past year.
n
What went well, which did not work.
n
What we have accomplished, what we failed to follow.
n
If you are like me, it is easy to sur-indicle on the part “which has gone wrong” and to feel all kinds of negative emotions around these things.
n
We could look back with guilt on something we have done or did not do. As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, I am someone who has The most “Catholic guilt” Even if I am not religious.
n
I came across a story a few months ago that I still think of. It is not a word in the Tibetan language which translates directly into “guilt”. The closest translation is something closer to “intelligent regret”.
n
I do not speak Tibetan and I could not find a Tibetan speaker to confirm it, but I think it is a beautiful feeling that can help us pass in 2025.
n
Guilt can be corrosive and unproductive. But as Dan Pink emphasizes in his book Regret power,, looking back with the right kind Regrets for things that have happened or that have not happened can actually be powerful and transformative for ourselves.
n
Thus, rather than trying to live a life of “no rowings” (the opposite of intelligence) …
n
n
We can apply a regret intelligently to the way 2024 took place.
n
Therefore, in honor of the reunion of the Oasis group for the coming year, Don’t look back in anger (Always a JAM of all time, by the way).
n
Instead… let’s look back with curiosity.
n
Look back with curiosity, no judgment.
n
Take time today and watch your year with Curiosity, not judgment.
n
Have you done the things they wanted to do? Great! I bet you learned something.
n
Has your life left the rails and you spent most of the year trying to stay afloat! Great! I bet you learned something! Have you started and arrested and bailed out on a goal on several occasions? Great! I bet you learned something!
n
Write these things. Notice the emotions you feel while looking back. Note what you learned and how it can shed light on the decisions or the future choices you make.
n
Maybe you have learned that you hate running, or that the Keto was an absolute failure, or that becoming a parent for the first time really spoiled your life entirely, or that we cannot stick to a morning routine .
n
These are all things that have happened. Now we have to decide the type of emotion to apply to these things.
n
Remember, remember, The past is not settled in stoneAnd some of these losses or failures could be the very lesson that you have to learn for you. They could be the catalyst for your next step forward.
n
Remember, it is not “I have messed up / failed, so I am a lost cause …”
n
It is: “I have messed up / failed, and I learned this lesson that I can apply around 2025.”
n
How will 2025 be different?
