The defender of Manchester United Diogo Dalot insisted that the team improves under the head coach Ruben Amorim despite the scathing evaluation by the co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe of the current team.
Ratcliffe was brutally honest during a recent series of interviews. The minority shareholder having a sports check of the club has fixed five players – Antony, Casemiro, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Jadon Sancho – who still have current transfer fees that United must pay this summer before claiming sensitive that “some are not good enough and some are probably too paid”.
These explosive comments were placed in Dalot before United took the city of Leicester on Sunday evening. The Portuguese rear immediately failed criticism.
“In the end, this club will progress through what we do on the field, so we are all responsible for the future and the momentum of the club,” he told journalists. “We know that we have this responsibility, but we want to take it.
“The pressure is high, but we are Manchester United players for a reason. We want to change things ourselves. It is clear that when you are 14th in the league, we did not do what we should, so we want to change this. If we want to put Manchester United in mind, we have to do much better.”
However, Dalot was not limited only to self-laceration. The 25 -year -old wanted to point out that improvements had been made in recent weeks to a team now undefeated during their last six outings.
“I think you now see a much better team than a few months ago,” said Dalot. “I think it’s clear, when we talk about time, we don’t say that to buy time. Obviously, it’s difficult when you play for a club like this because you have to improve by always winning.
“The pressure is always high to win every match and when the results do not come, it is difficult to show progress. But I think that in the last two games, you have seen something different. There have been different playing styles, but overall, we improve. This is something that everyone can see – but the results finally show our position.”
United was worthy of the winners against Real Sociedad in the Europa League Thursday evening, realizing a 4-1 victory which reserved its place in the quarterfinals of the competition. The side of Amorim has accumulated 25 shots, ten of which were on the target and an XG of 4.02 – new summits in each category during the rocky mandate of the Portuguese boss, by Opta.
This burst of form coincided with more controversial links led by Ratcliffe and its parent company Ineos. “You can see that this is a period of change, especially since the INEO have arrived,” admitted Dalot. “You can see that there is a different approach in terms of building a new structure around the club. It’s clear.
“Everyone sees it and that you like it or not, you can see changes – and it is something different that we have never seen before. So you can see that the club wants to go in a direction where they want to rebuild Manchester Utd and put Manchester UTD in mind. So I hope in the coming years, we can go.”
