The theme of today’s strands is: Noise switch

If this does not help you, here is a clue: scrambled words

Word index to unlock the clues at stake

Your goal is to find hidden words that match the theme of the puzzle. If you are stuck, find the words you can. Whenever you find three words of four or more letters, the strands reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to obtain these clues, but the words of four letters or more that you find will work:

  • Fold, gins, spoon, spoons, sing, slide, slide, nuit, swells, stinks, grain, grain, stick, hips, chip, pose, pose, blush, good.

Answers for the puzzle of today’s strands

These are the answers that are linked to the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have them all (I originally thought there was always eight but that the number can vary), each letter in the table will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers:

  • Croche, ships, wells, bedding, blushing, struck.

The strands of today Spangram are spooerics. To find it, start with the S which makes five letters on the furthest row on the left and wrap.

Here is the explanation of this complex puzzle. “Spoonerism” is a formulation due to the British director William Archibald Spooner, who would have mutilated his own words, changing letters in a sentence.

Two of the answers to today’s puzzle are the blushing crow. It is a spoonerism to “crush the blow”.

Two other responses are bedding wells. It is a spoonerism for “wedding bells”.

And the last two responses are bewitches struck. It is a spoonerism for “chicken straps”.
