n
I am a big fan of Stephen King.
n
I read the whole Dark Tower, It, The Shining, Doctor Sleep series, and my favorite film is based on his news, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank’s redemption.
n
n
So, at the request of several friends who told me that it was their favorite book, I finally started to read 12/22/63.
n
Here is the premise of explosion of the head:
n
On November 22, 1963, three shots sounded in Dallas, President Kennedy died and the world changed.
n
What if you could change it?
n
The new dramatic novel at the heart of Stephen King concerns a man who returns in time to prevent JFK assassination – a thousand pages tour.
n
Like every good Nerd, I devoted too much brains to a hypothetical journey through time, the butterfly effect and the modification of the past. I bet you have too.
n
Time travel is such an attractive idea because our brain can not help thinking of “the less traveled road” and “What if I had made X instead of Y?”
n
Which brings me to today’s newsletter.
n
Accepting that some paths are closed is incredibly liberating.
n
Some paths are closed
n
My friend Tim Urban Waitbutwhy.com Turn off this graphic on the life choices that we have composed until today, and the branching paths open to us tomorrow:
n
n
It is really easy for our hyperfocus brain on all the black lines of our past: the paths have closed to us, the decisions that we have not made, the decisions that we have made and how our life is often “determined” Right now.
n
“Because of the way I did this in the past, that’s how things are.”
n
“It’s a shame that I have never done Xyz, now it’s too late. I have so much regret!
n
“I do not deserve to be happy because of this error that I made”
n
We often forget that it is only possible to connect the points of our life by looking back, in which we made each decision with the best information we had at the time.
n
(If you are looking for a solid reading, Matt Haig The midnight library is a fictitious story that stimulates reflection on alternative life paths and acceptance. Haig draws from a past decision to commit suicide almost.)
n
So let’s talk a bit about these black lines and green possibilities.
n
Maybe some paths are closed!
n
I bring it all to make two points.
n
Author Chris Guillbeau, who strongly inspired my love for travel and influenced the way I built Nerd Fitness, recently published an essay on Celebrate closed doors.
n
We have all heard stories about people who start certain careers later in life.
n
An example would be, “”It is never too late! Samuel L. Jackson did not get his role as a breakthrough in “Pulp Fiction” before the age of 46. »»
n
And Chris points out that sometimes … it’s too late:
n
Although these stories are inspiring, the lesson “it’s not too late” is not universal. Sometimes it’s too late! To believe the opposite is to believe in a fantasy.
n
Some things in life have real deadlines – not everything, but others.
n
In other words, sometimes we often cling to something we know that we will end up doing “one day”, and perhaps we refuse to accept reality that … yes, it is too late.
n
Maybe we continue to expect the hope that we will end up running a marathon … even if we hate running.
n
Perhaps we keep the hope that we are going to write this kitchen book … Even if we no longer like cooking.
n
Perhaps we can decide that a few paths are closed to us. We can accept this.
n
The future is not in stone either
n
A few weeks ago, I wrote on how The past is not settled in stoneBecause our perception of history changes.
n
It is normal to accept that perhaps a dream we had when we were in their twenties is acceptable to die.
n
However, it is just as tragic to assume that “it is too late” to make changes in our future, and that it is already determined.
n
Betrand Russel said one day: “You don’t have to be who you were five minutes ago.”
n
As Chris says:
n
“It’s not too late” for many things, and it’s great. But sometimes it’s the case, and it’s okay.
n
It is not too late to learn something new. It is not too late to try new things.
n
But it could be too late for specific paths, and it’s perfectly good.
n
In fact, it is worth celebrating.
n
Letting go of certain paths or accepting that certain paths could be closed to us can erase space to make a different decision for life in the future.
n
You can decide this later during the day for:
n
- n
- Start powerlifting
- Take an online course for a new career.
- Try a new hobby.
- speak with your doctor Weight loss assistance.
n
n
n
n
n
We cannot travel in time to stop the Kennedy assassination.
n
Some paths of life are now closed to us.
n
It could be good!
n
Instead of spending more brains regret our closed black paths, we can work to decide which green path we are going to take.
